SUMMER POSITION – BUILDING MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT
Les Maisons Transitionnelles O3 On Our Own (O3) is a non-profit community organization in NDG that offers support services and subsidized housing to young parents (16 to 30 years old) and their children (0 to 5 years old). Each family can stay at O3 for up to 5 years, during which time they work on personal goals and attend group programming, with the goal of thriving independently within the community after they leave O3.
We are hiring a Summer Building Maintenance Assistant to support day-to-day upkeep of our multi-building apartments and office space. The role combines hands-on maintenance, light construction work, and grounds work with organization and resident-facing tasks. Work is completed on-site in collaboration with the Building Manager, with guidance and training provided. This is a Canada Summer Jobs Position so candidates must be under 30 years old.
JOB TASKS:
Ongoing interior and exterior maintenance and repairs:
- Lawn care and yard maintenance
- Cleaning grounds, helping tidy up after garbage day.
- Cleaning the stairs
- Indoor painting, caulking, plastering
- Basic carpentry projects (measuring, cutting, fastening)
- Loading/unloading supplies and tools
- Moving materials (e.g., lifting up to ~30 kg such as cement bags)
- Organizing tools and supply storage
- Using Notion to track tasks and maintenance tickets
Major Summer Building Projects:
- Exterior painting of steel railings and stairs, including surface prep
- Assisting in construction of an outdoor sun shade and playground site prep
- Other projects as they arise
REQUIREMENTS:
Skills & Qualifications:
- Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools (e.g., drill; saws/nailers are an asset)
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to ~30 kg)
- Reliable and punctual; shows up as scheduled
- Able to work independently and collaborate with others
- Strong problem-solving: can take a list of tasks and determine next steps using judgment
- Comfortable taking ownership of tasks while knowing when to ask for clarification
- Organized and detail-oriented; able to maintain clean and functional work/storage areas
- Comfortable working safely around children (ages 1–9)
- Basic computer literacy
Assets:
- Experience with painting prep/finishing and surface repair
- Basic plumbing or electrical knowledge
- Experience/ comfort working on ladders (up to ~8 feet)
- Interest in database design and ticket management systems
- Familiarity with Home Assistant or basic programming
- Drivers license
POSITION DETAILS:
Type: 30-35 hours a week, 8 week contract
Start date: ~June 1, somewhat flexible on start date
Language: The language of the workplace is primarily English so basic English is required.
Compensation: $25–$30/hour (based on experience)
Location and schedule: On-site (NDG, Montréal), Monday-Friday daytimes, semi-flexible schedule (ability to start early or work later depending on preference and tasks)

- Must be between 15 and 30 years of age
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or refugee
