COLLECTIVE KITCHEN FACILITATOR

Les Maisons Transitionnelles O3 On Our Own (O3) is a non-profit community organization in NDG that offers support services and subsidized housing to young parents (16 to 30 years old) and their children (0 to 5 years old). Each family can stay at O3 for up to 5 years, during which time they work on personal goals and attend group programming, with the goal of thriving independently within the community after they leave O3.

We’re looking for a facilitator for our weekly Collective Kitchen! The ideal candidate is passionate about cooking, a great facilitator who can communicate clearly and foster a fun community atmosphere (including getting young children to participate in the cooking process), and a great teacher who can help our residents to build and practice food skills and increase their food and nutrition knowledge. Our Collective Kitchen has a different focus weekly: often we cook one large meal together, but sometimes we focus on specific skills like weekly meal prep or quick healthy recipes.

Job tasks:

  • Lead collective cooking activity weekly
  • Ensure all participants feel welcome and facilitate an inclusive, fun atmosphere
  • In collaboration with our Community Development Coordinator, plan Collective Kitchen themes and activities, and define food and nutrition skills to be integrated each week
  • Plan ingredients needed for meals, stick to a defined budget, and grocery shop for ingredients
  • Ensure the kitchen and facilitation space is clean at the end of each shift (and make sure residents participate in cleaning)
  • Understand and follow health and safety guidelines for food preparation
  • Take attendance, integrate opportunities for resident feedback, and share personal and group feedback with O3 staff
  • Occasionally, facilitate other cooking activities with residents (ex. Summer BBQs, cooking for Holiday party, etc.)

Requirements:

  • Great cooking skills
  • Food and nutrition knowledge
  • Great facilitation skills (friendly, organized, a good teacher)
  • Knowledge of caribbean cooking is a huge asset
  • Comfortable integrating young children into the cooking activities (experience facilitating kid’s activities is an asset)
  • Workshop design skills/experience
  • Collaborative
  • Trauma-informed
  • Basic budgeting and admin skills

Position details:
Type: Approx 4-5 hours a week to start, possibility of more hours some weeks for planning activities
Start date: as soon as possible May/June 2025
Language: The language of the workplace is English. The ability to communicate in French is an asset and helpful for certain situations but is not required.
Compensation: salary scale $30-35/hour depending on experience
Location and schedule: Currently, our Collective Kitchen takes place on Wednesday evenings, so the facilitator would need to be available Wednesdays between 4-8:30pm. If you feel that you are the ideal candidate for the position but are not available Wednesday evenings, but you are available another weekday evening between Monday-Thursday, we are open to exploring the possibility of changing our schedule. If this is the case, please clearly state which alternative evenings you are available in your application.
All Collective Kitchens take place on site at our location in NDG.
