Why support O3
Lack of affordable housing in Canada continues to be one of the main causes of poverty. 21% of single mothers in Canada are raising their children in poverty and women parenting on their own enter shelters at twice the rate of two-parent families. Affordable housing is an effective building block in the creation of healthy, flourishing families.
When young parents are not struggling to provide the most essential needs of shelter and food, they are able to take steps that ensure a more viable future for themselves and their children. This stability contributes to the likelihood of further education and training, personal development and healing from trauma.
The O3 model is a long-term intervention designed to provide support and opportunities to those who have experienced socio-economic challenges and who have a desire to break a cycle of poverty and create change in their lives. Housing alone is often insufficient to permit this often vulnerable group to overcome the complex challenges they face. O3 offers support programs and a caring community to ensure movement towards long-term independent living as well as increased access to community and health social services.
Parents at O3 create alternative “family” connections – Living at O3 enables the development of significant connections with others in similar circumstances and brings with it the many advantages of having peer collaboration and a supportive community.
Your contribution enables O3 to continue to offer life-changing programs to young parents and to break the cycle of poverty one family at a time.
