The idea to create a transitional housing project for young parents on the Benny Farm site in NDG originated from Elizabeth House (EH). EH is a non-profit organization founded in 1968 that helps young mothers and fathers in difficulty adapt to their role as parents by providing residential and support services .The staff at Elizabeth House saw a need for a second stage program in which mothers in the communal residential program could transition to their own apartments yet still access services and the support of community.
Les Maisons Transitionnelles , On Our Own, or O3, opened in 2003 with funding from the Société D’Habitation Québec . In 2012 O3 became an independent organization with its own Charitable status and Board of Directors. O3 and Elizabeth House continue to work closely together to create a circle of support around young families in difficulty.
